The origin of “community” is from the Latin word …
“The word “community” is derived from the Old French communité which is derived from the Latin communitas (cum, “with/together” + munus, “gift”), a broad term for fellowship or organized society.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community)
“Community: The origin of the word “community” comes from the Latin munus, which means the gift, and cum, which means together, among each other. So community literally means to give among each other.” (http://www.seek2know.net/word.html) \
Simply put, society could be best described as the way we do things, and, community is who we do those things with.
Melbourne Zoo – EXCURSION
Friday 2nd March 2012
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As part of our Year 6 Inquiry unit ‘Creating an Effective Learning Community’, the year 6 students will be attending an excursion on Friday 2nd March to the Melbourne Zoo, Parkville Victoria. The students will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning at approximately 2.45pm.
Students will be generating and developing wonderings about animal behaviours. These wonderings will cover how different animal relationships are formed and impact on the ‘family,’ how they live, gather food and teach their young. Following our excursion, students will compare and contrast with human behaviour and consider what animals can teach us about working successfully in a team.
The cost of the excursion will be $20 per student to cover the bus and entry into the Melbourne Zoo.
Students are asked to bring their own snack, lunch and drinks on the day in a bag that they will be responsible to carry all day. Students will also need to bring appropriate clothing for the weather including a hat and sunscreen.
Please return this permission form no later than Friday 24th February.
Thank You
